Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticised President Bola Tinubu over the worsening security situation in the country, saying Nigeria is increasingly being defined by official condemnations rather than meaningful action.

Atiku made the remarks while reacting to recent deadly attacks and mass abductions in parts of Oyo State and Katsina State, where several people were killed and others kidnapped, including schoolchildren and teachers.

In a statement released through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, he described the repeated violence as evidence of a deeper failure in leadership at the highest level.

According to him, the government’s response to each tragedy has become routine and ineffective, following a familiar pattern of condemnation and promises of justice without tangible results.

He said Nigerians are growing weary of what he called repeated and empty reactions from authorities, noting that official statements after each attack no longer carry weight.

Atiku further argued that a government that only speaks after lives have been lost cannot be said to be truly in control of the security situation.

He also claimed that the rising wave of insecurity reflects a situation where criminal groups now operate with growing boldness, allegedly due to a weakening sense of state authority.

He warned that if terrorists can attack communities, abduct children and teachers, and carry out killings without consequences, it signals a serious breakdown in security governance.

Atiku also raised concerns over alleged attempts to restrict or control the circulation of information and images related to violent incidents, describing such actions as dangerous for democratic accountability.

He urged the government to take urgent steps to secure the release of abducted victims, strengthen national security response, and carry out comprehensive reforms to address the country’s security challenges.
