The Abia State Government has advised residents to avoid contact with rodents and to seek prompt medical attention whenever they feel unwell.
The Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, gave the advice on Monday at the Government House in Umuahia while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
He stated that there are currently no confirmed cases of diseases such as Ebola, COVID-19, cholera, Lassa fever, rabies, Mpox, or diphtheria in any part of Abia state.

However, he urged Abia residents to maintain strict personal and environmental hygiene as a preventive measure against possible outbreaks.
According to him, residents should remain cautious, avoid contact with rodents, and visit health facilities promptly when ill.
He also noted that the state government is closely monitoring reported Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, following alerts from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
