The Catholic Bishop of Yola, Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, has criticized the Federal Government for what he described as inadequate efforts to tackle the country’s worsening insecurity.
Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, who is the immediate past chairman of the Adamawa State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), said the government has yet to demonstrate enough political will to address the persistent security challenges facing the nation.
Speaking with journalists shortly after presiding over the closing Mass of the 2026 Yola Diocesan Pastoral Council in Yola, the bishop expressed concern over the continued cases of killings, kidnappings, banditry, and attacks on communities.
He noted that despite repeated assurances from government authorities, the security situation across many parts of the country remains alarming.
“The government must move beyond promises and take concrete action to tackle the security challenges confronting the nation,” Mamza said.
He stressed that protecting the lives and property of Nigerians should remain the government’s top priority, adding, “We are tired of failed promises.”
The cleric also urged security agencies to improve intelligence gathering and enhance the welfare of personnel to boost effectiveness in their operations.
