The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, has officially launched the 10,000 Women in Mobility Initiative, aimed at economically empowering women across Nigeria.
The program’s goal of the “women in mobility initiative” is to give women access to cars, tricycles (also known as Keke), and motorcycles in all 36 states as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
By doing this, it hopes to increase women’s economic involvement and financial independence by enabling them to engage in transportation, logistics, delivery services, and other mobility-related businesses.

Recating to the development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs, stressed the significance of establishing economic spaces for women in a speech on Friday during the introduction and transfer of the mobility assets.
She noted that the Abuja pilot phase had already handed over vehicles to 1,000 women, with the programme set to expand nationwide to reach 10,000 beneficiaries.
She said the women in mobility initiative helps women build credible financial histories, which can unlock future access to credit.
According to her: “It’s an economic empowerment. It’s how much they drive it and how many hours they put into it. There’s no economic effort that is a chicken feed.

“Mr. President has a goal of a $1 trillion economy, and we have all come together across sectors to ensure that we activate economic spaces and also carry women along.
“Because women are over 50 per cent of the population of this country, and they participate across sectors, so we will like to strengthen their participation so that it translates into value, not just for them and their families, but for the country at large.”
Sulaiman-Ibrahim also praised Uzoma Nwagba, Managing Director of CREDICORP, for promoting equitable access to consumer credit and converting policy into real economic prospects for women.

Nwagba, meanwhile, characterised the initiative as a useful move in strengthening Nigeria’s consumer credit ecosystem and increasing financial inclusion.
He explained that CREDICORP is collaborating with key stakeholders to integrate financing, asset supply, training, and business support, ensuring that beneficiaries do more than just access credit—they can succeed in their mobility businesses.
He assured: “The agency will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the success, transparency, and sustainability of the programme nationwide.”

According to reports, the women in mobility initiative has already handed over the first 300 locally assembled tricycles and is expected to empower up to 10,000 women across the six geopolitical zones.
Under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, its objective is to boost incomes, deepen financial inclusion, and strengthen Nigeria’s mobility sector, the release concluded.
