Frank Omorojie, a staff member at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, has received praise for returning a misplaced pocketbook containing money and crucial travel documents to its owner at the Terminal 2 departure hall.
Omorojie reportedly found the missing item at the Rwanda Air check-in area on Wednesday.
The purse also contained $1,700, a Nigerian and British passport, as well as a credit card.
Airport sources said that Omorojie instantly gave the item to Aviation Security, AVSEC, staff without hesitation, despite the fact that the finding immediately prompted worries about identifying the owner.
Airport staff followed standard procedures, documented the recovered belongings, and transferred them to the Customer Service unit, which quickly issued a public announcement to find the owner.
Soon after, staff reunited a Nigerian passenger scheduled to travel to Kigali, Rwanda, with all her belongings intact, after she had feared she had lost them permanently.
Airport officials described the incident as a clear show of professionalism and integrity, noting that such actions strengthen public confidence in airport operations and staff conduct.
While speaking, Omorojie said his decision was guided by simple principles of honesty.
He said “I just did what was right.”
Meanwhile, colleagues and airport officials have subsequently applauded his action, calling it an admirable example of accountability and moral behaviour in public service.
