Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has formally joined the race for the Bauchi State governorship.

Tuggar joined the race after obtaining the All Progressives Congress (APC) expression of interest and nomination forms on Wednesday.

Following this, Yusuf Tuggar spoke to media about his projected administration’s top priorities, including economic regeneration through agriculture and focus areas as well as insecurity.

He pointed out that improving livelihoods in Bauchi would need addressing security issues and making greater use of the state’s agricultural resources.

He said, “The challenge of insecurity and the need to properly utilise our farmland will be top priorities. Bauchi has vast land resources. And these must be structured in a way that supports subsistence farmers and pastoralists while lifting people out of poverty”.

Tuggar further spoke against a system in which resources are concentrated in the hands of a few at the expense of the many.  He also added that equitable access to land must be guaranteed to prevent economic imbalance.

On the party’s primary election method, the candidate said he is open to either direct primaries or a consensus arrangement, as long as the process is credible and transparent.

Tuggar’s resignation also followed President Tinubu’s recent order.

Tinubu recently ordered all political appointees who wanted to run for office in 2027 to step down by March 31, 2026, at the latest.
