Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State visited Mantau community in Malumfashi Local Government Area on Wednesday, following a tragic attack by bandits that claimed the lives of 32 worshippers during prayers.
The attack, which took place last Tuesday, resulted in the deaths of 20 people inside the mosque and 12 others outside. Additionally, about 20 houses were burned, and 76 villagers were abducted but later rescued after a prompt strike by the Nigerian Air Force.
During a condolence visit, Governor Radda described the situation as deeply heartbreaking.
“What I saw was heartbreaking, orphans, burnt houses, and families in distress. We asked them what they need, and I assured them government will address those challenges one by one,” Governor Radda said.
He explained that the community was targeted in a reprisal after villagers earlier repelled bandits, killing seven and seizing weapons.
The governor announced an immediate relief package of N500,000 for each affected household. He also directed the Ministry of Works to assess the Mantau road and ordered plans for a new school and hospital, as well as mosque renovation and rebuilding of destroyed homes.
Governor Radda reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
“Security is about humanity, not politics. With the support of our people, In Sha Allah, we will overcome,” he added.
