The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has rejected a request by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) seeking permission to visit former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in custody.
In a letter dated May 21, 2026, and addressed to the party’s National Secretary in Abuja, the anti-graft agency stated that the request could not be approved.
According to the Commission, El-Rufai is currently facing trial before two separate courts — the Kaduna State High Court and the Federal High Court, both located in Kaduna State.

The ICPC explained that although he remains in the Commission’s custody based on court orders, the matter is already before the courts, limiting access to only approved individuals.
The agency stated that the courts only permitted visits from El-Rufai’s family members, legal representatives, and medical personnel.
“These are the only category of persons granted access to see the defendant in the Commission’s custody,” the letter noted.
Based on those court directives, the Commission said it was unable to grant the ADC’s request to visit him.
