The founder of Cable News Network (CNN), Ted Turner has died at the age of 87.
Turner Enterprises released a statement on Wednesday announcing his passing.
Turner was renowned for his “no-holds-barred delivery, endearing sense of humour, and undying loyalty” to those around him, according to the statement.
The statement reads, “On behalf of the Turner family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of philanthropist, environmentalist and cable pioneer Ted Turner, who died peacefully today at age 87, surrounded by his family.”

Robert Edward Turner III born November 19, 1938, was an American businessman, television producer, media proprietor and philanthropist.
He launched CNN, the world’s first 24-hour television news channel, in June 1980, transforming global news consumption by offering round-the-clock coverage beyond traditional evening bulletins.
Turner had earlier revealed in 2018 that he suffered from Lewy body dementia, a degenerative brain condition.
The network also revealed that Turner earned the nickname “The Mouth of the South” for his outspoken personality.
Turner also founded the United Nations Foundation and was a well-known philanthropist outside of media.
As a philanthropist, he donated $1 billion to establish the United Nations Foundation to boost American support for the UN, and he served as chairman of its board of directors.
In addition to broadcasting, Ted Turner was a noted philanthropist and founded the United Nations Foundation.
Turner leaves behind two great-grandchildren, fourteen grandchildren, and five children.
Meanwhile, the family has asked seclusion and stated that a private service will take place; information about a public memorial will be released at a later time.
