Kano begins screening of couples ahead of mass wedding set for Monday.

The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced that prospective couples from 24 local government areas will report to their respective Hisbah offices on Monday, June 8, 2026, for medical screening ahead of the state-sponsored mass wedding programme involving 3,000 couples.

The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Mujahideen Aminudddeen, disclosed this on Sunday, listing the affected local government areas as Rogo, Wudil, Tudun Wada, Warawa, Kibiya, Dawakin Tofa, Garun Malam, Kura, Dambatta, Karaye, Tsanyawa, Minjibir, Rimin Gado, Shanono, Kabo, Tofa, Rano, Bebeji, Ajingi, Gwarzo, Sumaila, Kiru, Takai, and Madobi.

He explained that the Kano screening will include tests for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, genotype compatibility, drug use, and pregnancy for female applicants.

According to him, only couples who successfully complete the screening process will be cleared to take part in the mass wedding ceremony.

Reports indicate that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had earlier announced plans to sponsor the marriage of 1,500 men and 1,500 women, mainly widows, divorcees, orphans, and low-income residents.

Under the programme, each groom will receive N100,000 as dowry support, while couples will also be provided with household items such as beds, mattresses, wardrobes, and food supplies, alongside N100,000 grants to support small businesses.
