Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has described the outcome of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election as an indication of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor said the high voter turnout and peaceful nature of the election reflected continued public confidence in the APC and its policies.
Governor Yusuf noted that the by-election was conducted in a free, fair, and credible atmosphere, adding that it captured the genuine will of the electorate. He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the successful conduct of the poll and also praised security agencies for ensuring a peaceful exercise.
He further stated that the smooth conduct and outcome of the election had reinforced trust in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The governor congratulated the APC candidate on his victory and urged him to prioritise effective representation for his constituents.
According to him, the result demonstrates that the APC remains a dominant political force in Kano State and is well positioned for future electoral successes.
Yusuf also criticised the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for not fielding a candidate in the by-election, describing it as a “mushroom political movement” with no strong grassroots presence.
He alleged that the party avoided the contest due to fear of defeat and its weak support base.
The governor maintained that the by-election exposed the limitations of opposition parties in the state while highlighting the increasing acceptance of the APC among residents.
He assured the public that his administration would continue to focus on delivering development projects and programmes to improve livelihoods.
Yusuf also extended congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda, over what he described as the party’s recent successes in by-elections nationwide.
BACKSTORY….
Ahead of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election in Kano State, political activities in the area had been relatively low-key compared to major statewide contests, with attention largely focused on party preparations and voter mobilisation.
The exercise was seen as a test of strength for the major political parties in the constituency, as stakeholders watched closely to gauge public sentiment and party influence ahead of future elections.
While campaigns and preparations continued in the build-up to the poll, the contest eventually drew reactions from political actors after the election was concluded and results were announced, setting the stage for post-election commentary and political interpretations from different camps.
