The Kogi State Government has confirmed the abduction of 24 children from an orphanage home in the state, raising renewed concerns about security in the area.
The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of Sunday, April 26, 2026, when armed men stormed the facility and forcefully took the children to an unknown location.
Confirming the development, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, described the incident as “disturbing and unfortunate,” assuring residents that security agencies have been fully activated to secure the rescue of the victims.

He said, “We strongly condemn the abduction of innocent children from an orphanage. The government is working closely with security operatives to ensure their safe return.”
Fanwo added that ongoing efforts are focused on tracking down the perpetrators, stressing that the state government remains committed to ensuring the children are safely reunited with their families and caregivers.
The Kogi State Police Command also confirmed the incident. Its Public Relations Officer disclosed that a joint security operation involving multiple agencies has been launched to rescue the abducted children and arrest those responsible.
