KWSIEC Chair Promises Clear and Honest Kwara LG Polls.
In an interview with journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC), Alhaji Mohammadu Baba Okanla, assured the 17 political parties participating in the forthcoming local government elections of a transparent process and a level playing field.
Baba Okanla confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been finalized to conduct the council polls on September 21, 2024. He urged the political party leaders to ensure that their members adhere to the rules and avoid inciting any crises before, during, or after the elections.
He stated, “As of today, we have 17 political parties that participated with us in the interface, and we have given them the date, conditions, and timetable.”
To ensure a smooth election process, KWSIEC has scheduled various programs to educate and sensitize stakeholders. Baba Okanla mentioned an upcoming seminar for all political parties where expectations will be clarified. He emphasized the importance of peaceful conduct on election day, encouraging party leaders to instruct their followers to come out en masse and vote for their preferred candidates.
“We have provided a level playing field for all parties, demonstrating our commitment to transparency,” Baba Okanla concluded.
