“Don’t sleep”, Wizkid shares Forthcoming Album Morayo, dedicated to his late Mum

Nigerian music star Wizkid, also known as Ayodeji Balogun, recently stirred up emotions online with the cover art for his upcoming album, Morayo.

The Grammy-winning Afrobeats artist shared a close-up image of his late mother’s face, marking the album’s cover and giving fans a glimpse into just how personal this project is to him. Along with the image, Wizkid captioned it, “MORAYO Nov. 22,” hinting at the album’s release date and prompting waves of reactions across social media.

Wizkid’s mother, Jane Morayo Balogun, passed away in 2023 at the age of 66, and since then, the artist has been vocal about her significance in his life.

He revealed earlier this year that Morayo, which translates to “I See Joy” in Yoruba, is a tribute to her, stating, “My album ‘Morayo,’ dedicated to my mom, the love of my life, drops very soon. Don’t dull. Don’t sleep.”

With Morayo, fans anticipate a deeply heartfelt album that captures Wizkid’s journey through grief, healing, and the celebration of his mother’s life.

Billboard reports that Morayo will be released under Starboy/Sony Music International/RCA Records, and fans eagerly await what they expect to be a soulful mix of Afrobeats and R&B that has defined Wizkid’s global appeal.

This project holds the potential to further cement Wizkid’s influence on the international music scene, as he merges his unique sound with a deeply personal theme.

The album cover alone has sparked mixed reactions from fans and social media users. Some believe Wizkid is using his mother’s image to tug at fans’ heartstrings, with one commenting, “U want to sell the album for pity because u lost ur mama.” Others, however, appreciate the tribute, with one fan noting, “Their bond must have been so strong. I pray he heals fast. Rest on, Mummy.”

Wizkid’s emotional release has fans on edge, eagerly awaiting the album drop to experience his journey firsthand, and it’s clear that Morayo is more than music to him—it’s a tribute and an enduring symbol of his mother’s impact.

“I’m not gay” – Desmond Elliot responds to allegations

0

Desmond Elliot refutes allegations against him being gay

Nollywood star and politician Desmond Elliot recently set the record straight on rumors about his sexuality, which have been swirling online.

In an interview, Elliot responded to accusations claiming he was gay, calling the rumors “baseless” and explaining why he initially ignored them. He didn’t feel the need to address something that neither added to nor took away from his life.

“Why should I respond to allegations that don’t change my life in any way?” he questioned. “It’s just an opinion, and I don’t think I need to come out to confirm or deny it as long as I’m positively impacting people’s lives.”

Elliot took the opportunity to promote tolerance, emphasizing that while people are free to live as they wish within legal limits, respect for others is key. “If you identify as something, go ahead; it’s your choice within the law,” he said. “But people don’t have to accept it.

As for me, I’m straight… you won’t find anyone straighter than me.” He added that if others wanted to enjoy the spotlight through rumors and publicity, that was their choice, but it wasn’t something that concerned him.

The actor’s statement comes after a Nigerian blog published a list alleging certain male Nigerian celebrities, including Elliot, were gay. This list stirred up reactions across social media, with fans discussing and debating the claims.

However, most of the men listed chose to remain silent, preferring not to engage with the rumors. Elliot’s response addressed the accusations directly and with a bit of humor, signaling he wouldn’t be dragged into unnecessary drama.

He encouraged others to “do you,” but to keep respect and consideration for their neighbors in mind. His comments have sparked discussions on social media about celebrity privacy, public opinions, and personal boundaries.

“chill with the revealing outfit” Portable calls Tiwa out

0

Portable calls Tiwa Savage out for posting pictures in her underwear

Nigerian singer Portable recently stirred up a buzz online after publicly calling out Tiwa Savage for posting photos in her underwear at age 40. In a TikTok livestream, Portable questioned whether it was suitable for Tiwa, a mother, to share such revealing images, especially at this stage of her life.

“I’ve been a fan since I was small, and now I’m a father. Mummy Tiwa Savage is still posting pictures in just panties,” Portable remarked, emphasizing his surprise. “Is it really right for a mom to do that?” Despite the criticism, Portable admitted that Tiwa Savage still “appeals” to him.

He jokingly described her as a “bad girl” who hasn’t lost her charm since her younger years, sharing that meeting her in person was a memorable experience. “When I hugged her, it felt like I hugged a mermaid,” he laughed, adding, “But honestly, someone should tell her to chill with the revealing outfits.”

His comments sparked reactions across social media, dividing fans. While some agreed with his point, others found his delivery inappropriate.

One Instagram user expressed frustration, saying, “What level of disrespect is this?” Meanwhile, another commenter saw his words differently, suggesting that Portable wasn’t being disrespectful but lacked the right approach.

“I don’t think he means any harm,” the commenter wrote. “He just doesn’t have the emotional intelligence to say it right. He’s basically saying Tiwa’s dress sense is ‘fighting temptation’.”

Others dismissed Portable’s criticism entirely, pointing out that Tiwa is an entertainer and deserves creative freedom. “If Nicki Minaj did the same, you wouldn’t be talking,” one person said, brushing off Portable’s concerns.

While Portable’s comments might have been delivered in his typical blunt style, they opened up a conversation on celebrity image, self-expression, and social expectations – a topic that left his fans both laughing and debating.

US announces charges on attempted plot to assassinate Trump

0

US Retaliates with charges on Iranian plot to assassinate Trump

US prosecutors have filed charges in an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate former President Donald Trump and a well-known Iranian-American dissident journalist.

According to the Justice Department, this plan allegedly came from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), aiming to retaliate for the 2020 US-led killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, ordered by Trump himself.

Farhad Shakeri, a 51-year-old Afghan national believed to be residing in Iran, reportedly took charge of planning the assassination on Trump, who won Tuesday’s US presidential election against Vice President Kamala Harris.

Prosecutors have charged Shakeri, along with two New York-based men, Carlisle Rivera, 49, and Jonathon Loadholt, 36, for also plotting to kill an Iranian-American dissident journalist who criticizes Iran’s regime.

The Justice Department described Shakeri as a key IRGC figure living in Tehran, adding that he once lived in the US but was deported after serving 14 years for robbery.

In recent months, Shakeri allegedly leveraged his network of former criminal associates from his prison days to work with the IRGC, recruiting operatives to carry out surveillance and other assignments targeting IRGC enemies.

Shakeri reportedly revealed the plot to assassinate Trump in phone conversations with FBI agents. He contacted the agents hoping to negotiate a reduced sentence for an incarcerated associate.

During these conversations, he allegedly disclosed that an IRGC official had approached him in September with a specific timeline: Trump’s assassination plan needed to be ready within a week. If not, the IRGC aimed to pursue Trump post-election, assuming his loss would make him a more vulnerable target.

The dissident journalist, speculated to be Masih Alinejad, has previously been targeted in various kidnapping and assassination plots by Iran, though court documents haven’t officially confirmed her identity.

In late October, US prosecutors filed charges against an IRGC general related to yet another plot against Alinejad.

With the recent announcement, US officials emphasize Iran’s ongoing attempts to harm American citizens, including officials and vocal regime critics, despite Iran’s outright denials.

The State Department, meanwhile, has issued a $20 million reward for information leading to the arrest of another Iranian suspect behind an earlier alleged plot targeting former White House official John Bolton.

Unknown Gunmen Kill Police and Abduct Chinese Men

Credit: BBC

On Thursday evening, gunmen reportedly shot and murdered an Inspector of Police while abducting two Chinese nationals at Quarry Camp in Cross River’s Akamkpa Local Government Area.

SP Nelson Okpabi, the Police Public Relations Officer in Charge of Zone 6, verified the event in a statement published in Calabar and made accessible to the media on Friday.

According to the statement, the armed individuals, who purportedly wore military camouflage, also took the slain officer’s AK-47.

It went on to say that the hoodlums got into the quarry “after a worker accidentally allowed a security breach at the gate”.

He revealed that Jonathan Towuru, the AIG in command of the zone, has ordered a thorough search for the armed attackers, pledging that they will be brought to justice.

“The Police hereby appealed to the people to be on the lookout and provide any useful information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators,” he told us.

Popular Baltasar Engonga Sacked By Equatorial Guinea President

High Authorities in Equatorial Guinea have dismissed the popular Baltasar Engonga from his position as the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF).

His dismissal comes after several videos showed him having sexual intercourse with various women. These videos went viral on social media and he has since been trending.

The government had previously suspended Engonga following the leaked video, which allegedly claims he was involved with over 400 women, some of whom are reportedly partners of prominent figures in Equatorial Guinea.

Baltasar Engonga

Baltasar Engonga has not commented on the allegations, even though several news agencies have reached out to him for a response.

Reports indicate that President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo ordered Engonga’s dismissal. Engonga is the son of Baltasar Engonga Edjo, the current president of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC).

Local news sources report that the decision to dismiss Engonga came via a decree signed by his great-uncle, President Mbasogo.

Equatorial Guinea’s Vice President, Teodoro Mangue, has promised to take “severe measures” against officials involved in sexual activities in government offices following the viral “sex tapes” allegedly involving a high-ranking civil servant and the wives of several prominent individuals.

“We will immediately suspend all officials engaging in sexual relations within the offices of the country’s ministries,” the Vice President announced on his X (formerly Twitter) page on Monday.

Mangue added that the government would take strict action against these acts, as they constitute violations of the code of conduct and public ethics law.

The viral “sex tapes” surfaced on social media following the reported arrest of the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency, Baltasar Engonga, on unrelated corruption charges. Mangue has ordered regulators and internet service providers to block further circulation of the videos.

The country’s Attorney General stated that the encounters in the recordings were consensual but mentioned that Engonga could face charges for “public health crimes” if he has a sexually transmitted infection.

First Lady Constancia Mangue Obiang expressed strong displeasure over the incident, which she described as “embarrassing.”

She voiced her disappointment during a meeting with Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue, who oversees administrative coordination.

“This incident is a social scandal that has already crossed our borders and affects the image and reputation of Equatorial Guinean women,” the First Lady said in a statement posted on Facebook.

Baltasar Ebang Engonga is a high-ranking government official and politician in Equatorial Guinea. The 54-year-old has six children with his wife.

Engonga is the son of Baltasar Engonga Edjo, the president of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC).

He previously served as the head of Equatorial Guinea’s anti-corruption agency, the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF).

Baltasar Engonga began his career in 1998 when he became Minister of Education.

New terror group emerges in Nigeria, active in Kebbi, Sokoto - DHQ warns

This group, which is apparently tied to Islamist outfits in Mali and Niger, is thought to have moved into Nigeria as a result of political instability in these surrounding countries.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, issued a statement on Thursday, November 7, outlining the group’s origins and methods.

The Defence Headquarters
“The terrorists took advantage of the gaps in collaboration between both countries and exploited challenging terrain to make incursions in remote areas of certain North Western states to spread their ideology,” the foreign minister stated.

This recent occurrence highlights the increased security challenges in Nigeria’s border regions.

Major General Buba noted that the instability in Mali and Niger has created conditions for terrorist groups to spread their influence outside their usual strongholds, bringing their operations closer to Nigeria. The Defence Headquarters has not yet provided particular information regarding the group’s activities or operational strength.

However, the military stated that it is closely watching the situation and will continue to coordinate efforts to repel any incursions that endanger Nigeria’s sovereignty or the safety of its residents.

As regional crises in West Africa continue, security experts worry that Nigeria’s border states may face new threats.

Education Minister wants the FG to resurrect Jonathan’s Almajiri system of education.

Alausa made the call during an oversight visit to the ministry by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, chaired by Senator Muntari Dandutse. Alausa, who was just appointed to the ministry, lamented the high incidence of out-of-school children, claiming that with adequate funding, the problem will be addressed.

“We have up to 20 million out-of-school kids.

He advocated for increased money to meet the ultimate goal of removing out-of-school youngsters off the streets. According to the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School, the figure of 20 million was actually underestimated and should be closer to 40-50 million. This is a threat that can swallow everyone. “We need to make these schools work.”Former President Goodluck Jonathan built approximately 137 Almajiri schools during his term, but it is unfortunate that only a few of these schools are still running,” he stated.

Alausa stated that there was a lot of infrastructural ruin in the schools, and that the Almajiri Commission, founded by an act of Parliament, would empower the students.
He, however Dandutse also urged the minister to address security and power supply challenges for higher education facilities.

The minister also stated that the ministry would find a solution to keep kids in school by making the Home Grown Feeding Program feasible and sustainable.

“We will design the diets, we will make sure that the children get adequate nourishment which will translate into better brain development, and allow us to develop human capital,” he told reporters.
He also said that the country was producing unemployable graduates.
“We need to refocus, and the way we’re doing that is by focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences (STEMM).

“We have hospitals built, infrastructure is in place, and funding is available, but we lack medical professionals to operate them.

“We will also focus on technical and vocational education. “We will encourage 80 percent practical training and 20 percent theory,” she explained.
Sen. Muntari Dandutse, Chairman of the Committee, stated that the Senate will work with the ministry to prioritize education in the country.
Dandutse also urged the minister to address security and power supply challenges at higher education institutions.
“The majority of the funds allocated to institutions will be used to pay electricity bills. “We must work together to ensure that they have an uninterrupted power supply,” he stated.
