Breaking News: National Grid Collapses for the 2nd time in 3 days

0

Looking like a more frequent occurrence for Nigerians to expect, the national grid has failed yet again for the second time in three days and the tenth time this year.

The grid collapse occurred around 11:28 a.m. on Thursday,

A check with the Independent System Operator, an autonomous branch of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), revealed that all power plants connected to the system were not producing any electricity at 12 p.m.

This was confirmed on the website of the Nigerian System Operators and additionally confirmed by ISO, showing that electricity generation fell to zero megawatts at 11:30 a.m., affecting generation businesses throughout the country.

Some Discos have confirmed this too.

The Jos Electricity Distribution Company said, “The current outage being experienced within our franchise States is a result of loss of power supply from the national grid.

“The loss of power supply from the national grid occurred this morning at about 1128 hours of today, Thursday, 7th November 2024, hence the loss of power supply on all our feeders. We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is restored back to normalcy.”

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDP) also informed its customers of the “potential system failure”.

“Kindly be informed that at precisely 11.29 hours today, 7th November 2024, we experienced a simultaneous loss of supply across our network,” IEKEDP said.

“A potential system failure or collapse is suspected. We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid.”

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to make a statement regarding Thursday’s grid collapse. Although they initially blamed Tuesday’s grid collapse on a series of line and generator trippings that caused grid instability and, as a result, partial system disturbance.

“The data from the National Control Centre (NCC) revealed that a part of the grid was not affected by the bulk power disruption”.

Nigerians are somewhat advised to look for alternative power to run their homes, shops, and offices as it looks like there might not be an end to the grid collapsing anytime soon.

Nigerians Say no to 28% Increase in Meters by Discos

0

The Electricity Discos in Nigeria have announced a price rise for several electricity meter models, this will be the second time this is happening in four months.

Nigerians have vehemently said No to the price hike, calling it a “wicked” move in light of the present national economic situation faced by many in the country.

The price of a single-phase meter has increased from around N117,000 to as much as N149,800 indicating a 28.03% increase. The price hike was announced on their official X handle on Wednesday and is set to take immediate effect across all discos across the country.

It’s important to note that the price increment varies across different discos in the country. Price ranges from N123,130.53 to N147,812.5 for single-phase meters and N206,345.65 to N266,600 for three-phase meters.

The reason for the increase was that Meter asset providers have argued that the NERC-approved price in August was less than the meters’ landing or production costs. This resulted in the Discos’ meter application portals being shut down because vendors refused to offer the product at a lower cost.

However, a lot of Nigerians have turned against this development.

Princewill Okorie, Executive Director of the Electricity Consumers Protection and Advocacy Centre, had a lot to say about the price hike.

“What do you want me to say? They keep increasing the meter price, why are they wicked? N200bn was earmarked for the NMMP that was to be implemented in three phases. Only the pilot phase of N59bn was implemented. And what the 11 Discos could pay back was only N7bn. What did they use the rest of the money for?

“Since after that N59bn, what has happened to the rest of the money when you removed N59bn from N200bn? Are they not the same people who are paying for this meter that are paying for the shortfall as part of their electricity bills? The regulator increased the tariff, saying they wanted the Discos to get money to pay back the loan. Who are the people that got the meters?

He further added, “Let them stop taking Nigerians as fools. The meter acquisition fund, what did they use it for? So, it’s not justified at all. I don’t know why they want to keep inflicting punishment on Nigerian consumers. Let them account for the N200bn for the national mass metering programme.”

“in other countries, how much is a meter? What is the price of a one-phase meter or three-phase compared to what they are asking Nigerians to pay?”

He further emphasized that the Discos received N59bn from the N200bn allocated for the National Mass Metering Programme in 2020, saying they only paid back N7bn.

So where is the remaining money?

Hilda Dirisu accuses her ex, BBN star, Soma Anyama of Abuse

“He Pushed my Head Against The Wall”: Hilda, Soma’s Ex-girlfriend, Accuses Him of Abuse

Hilda Dirisu, the ex-girlfriend of Big Brother Naija star Soma Anyama, recently opened up about the troubling experiences she claims to have endured during their relationship.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Hilda shared a detailed account of the alleged abuse she faced, stirring up a wave of reactions from fans and followers.

In her posts, Hilda described how Soma’s behavior caused her immense pain and fear over the years they were together as a couple. She shared that he once pushed her head against a wall, rough-handled her, bruised her lips, and even smashed her phone during an argument.

According to Hilda, she cut off contact with him in July, but he continued to reach out, stalking and pleading with her to get back together. Hilda also opened up about the role Soma’s mother played in their relationship, saying that she too harassed her at one point.

This led Hilda’s own mother to step in and give a firm warning to Soma’s mother after Hilda confided in her about the ongoing struggles.

There’s more to the story, though. Hilda mentioned an accusation about a bracelet she supposedly stole, a topic she encouraged fans to ask Soma about directly, adding yet another layer to the drama already being stirred.

Many people online backed Hilda’s account, with fans pointing out that they’d noticed Soma displaying concerning strange behavior while on Big Brother Naija.

One commenter, @ujhairplanet_beautyaccessories, chimed in, “Watched him and Angel on Big Brother—whatever Hilda said he did, he did.” Another follower, @she_is_toni, added, “I believe everything; he showed all the signs.”

For now, Hilda’s revelations have put Soma under scrutiny, leaving fans divided and deep in discussion on what to believe or perceive.

Dangote, A.A Rano, and AYM Shafa in a Tug of War

0

Nigeria’s largest oil marketers asked the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday to halt what they said was a Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE conspiracy to hold and control the nation’s energy sector.

The marketers namely; A. A. Rano Limited, Matrix Petroleum Services Limited, and AYM Shafa Limited, insisted that letting Dangote Refinery take control of the oil industry would be a disastrous move for the nation.

One of the marketers, AA Rano

This petition is a response they submitted to contest the suit filed by Dangote’s company to revoke the permits the marketers obtained to bring refined petroleum products into the nation.

The marketers were named as defendants together with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC) and the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in the lawsuit filed under the filing number FHC/ABJ/CS/1324/2024.

Dangote Refinery had questioned in its lawsuit whether the licenses being granted to these oil marketers to import refined petroleum products on their own were appropriate given that it had not observed any deficiencies in its own business operations.

The Dangote company informed the court that the licenses granted to the defendants should be revoked based on its refinery production of AGO and Jet-A1 which exceeds the current daily consumption of petroleum products in Nigeria.

They also asked the court to grant them N100 billion in damages against NMDPRA for allegedly continuing to provide import licenses to NNPCL and the marketers for the importation of petroleum products into Nigeria.

In particular, among other things, Dangote Refinery requested a court order of injunction prohibiting the first defendant (NMDPRA) from granting and/or extending import permits/licenses to the second through seventh defendants or other businesses to import petroleum products.

Additionally, it requested a court order compelling the first defendant to close all tank farms, storage facilities, warehouses, and stations where the defendants store all refined petroleum products imported into Nigeria.

“An order of injunction restraining the 1st defendant from imposing and demanding a 0.5% levy meant for off-takers of petroleum products directly and an additional 0.5% wholesale levy in favor of MDGIF or any other levy or sum against the plaintiff.”

The three big marketers, however, informed the court in their November 5, 2024, reply to the suit that the plaintiff does not manufacture enough petroleum products for Nigerians’ daily use, claiming that there was no evidence to the contrary.

The defendants informed the court that, following Section 317(9) of the PIA, they were eligible and well-qualified to receive a license from the first defendant to import petroleum products into the nation. As they duly met all the legal requirements.

They contended that giving the plaintiff the monopoly power over Nigeria’s petroleum industry, as it was attempting to do through the lawsuit, would eliminate competitive pricing of petroleum products in the nation, worsen the already dire state of the country’s economy, and cause “and unleash untold hardship on Nigerians, all of which constitute a recipe for disaster in the polity.

“That if Nigeria puts all her energy eggs in one basket by stopping the importation of petroleum products and allowing the Plaintiff to be the sole producer and supplier of petroleum products in Nigeria, with liberty to determine the prices at which it supplies the products, the prices of petroleum products in Nigeria will continue to rise and energy security will elude Nigeria.

“That in the event of any breakdown in or obstruction to the production chain of the plaintiff which stops it from producing Nigeria will be thrown into energy crises as Nigeria does not have the reserves that would last it for the at least 30 days that it would need to order, pay for, freight and import refined products into tanks in Nigeria.

“That amid the glaring absence of any credible and demonstrable proof that the Plaintiff refines and supplies adequate petroleum products for the daily use/consumption of Nigerians, giving the plaintiff judicial imprimatur to be the sole supplier of refined petroleum products to Nigerians, thereby encouraging monopoly in a major aspect of Nigeria’s oil industry, is a recipe for disaster in Nigeria’s energy sector,” the defendants added.

They further said, “The import licenses lawfully and validly issued to them did not in any way whatsoever, cripple the Plaintiff’s business or its refinery. “The import licenses issued to the defendants by the 1st defendant are in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2018, and other relevant laws.”

THIS CASE HAS BEEN ADJOURNED TO 20th JANUARY 2025 TO ALLOW OUT-OF-COURT SETTLEMENT BETWEEN BOTH PARTIES.

‘What INEC cannot achieve does not exist.’ Adeyanju asks Yakubu to preserve. Kamala

Adeyanju’s most recent tweet reinforces his continuous criticism of Nigeria’s voting methods, employing comedy to highlight global perceptions of election reliability.
In an unusual twist in the US presidential race, Nigerian lawyer and outspoken critic of Nigeria’s electoral system, Deji Adeyanju, took to X (formerly Twitter) to sarcastically assert that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria could somehow “save” Democratic candidate Kamala Harris from her expected defeat to Republican rival Donald Trump.

Adeyanju’s message, which included an image of INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu and the commission’s emblem, stated, “INEC can still save Kamala. What INEC cannot do does not exist. They can turn off the server or edit the results on IREV.
This remark attempted to mock Nigeria’s handling of the 2023 presidential election, which was heavily criticised both domestically and globally for alleged rigging.
Several electoral observers, including the European Union, judged the Nigerian election tainted, with claims of prejudice against the ruling party.

Adeyanju, who is known for his critical attitude on INEC’s transparency, expressed doubts about the organization’s trustworthiness.

According to current US election forecasts, Trump leads with 266 electoral votes, only four short of the 270 required for victory, while Harris lags with 219 electoral votes. Adeyanju’s remarks echo claims made during Nigeria’s recent elections, implying an ironic ‘intervention’ by INEC to shift outcomes in Harris’ favor.

Crvena Zvezda vs Barcelona, Champions League: Final Score 2–5.

Crvena Zvezda vs Barcelona, Champions League: Final Score 2–5.
Crvena Zvezda vs Barcelona, Champions League: Final Score 2–5.

Crvena Zvezda vs Barcelona, Champions League: Final Score 2–5.

Barcelona has won their third consecutive League Phase encounter and will finish Matchday 4 in the Top 8 of the Champions League standings for the first time this season after a 5-2 victory over Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade on Wednesday night. Barça played a mature game to deal with one of the toughest environments in world football and gain three more points in Europe, and Hansi Flick’s side has now won seven consecutive games in all competitions.

FIRST HALF

Barça made a strong start, dominating the ball and creating early opportunities through good passing and movement. Lamine Yamal and Raphinha missed early chances, but Iñigo Martínez’s header from a free kick put the Blaugrana ahead 13 minutes in.

Red Star responded well to falling behind, using the crowd’s passion to press them forward in search of an equalizer. They struggled to beat Barça’s offside trap, but Silas eventually kept onside and lobbed Iñaki Peña on the half-hour mark, tying things up and sending the Marakana into frenzy.

The hosts dropped back to try to avoid conceding a second before halftime, while Barça continued to play well, but it appeared that the visitors would not score again until the 43rd minute, when Raphinha fired a rocket against the post and Robert Lewandowski was first to the rebound and scored an easy tap-in to put the away side back in front.

The halftime whistle signaled the end of a great period dominated by Barça, but Red Star remained in contention, and the second half promised to be highly interesting.

Second half

Barça improved their passing pace and intensity without the ball in the final period, and it was enough to seal the victory: two perfectly crafted attacks down the right wing resulted in two assists by Jules Kounde, the first for another Lewandowski tap-in and the second to find Raphinha, who scored a stunning goal to make it 4-1 shortly before the hour mark.
Barça faced a dangerous moment when Pau Cubarsí was kicked in the head by Red Star captain Uros Spajic. His teammates appeared concerned for a moment, but the young center-back walked off under his own power and was substituted by Sergi Domínguez took over with about 20 minutes remaining.

The Blaugrana had secured the victory and looked to stay firm at the back and maybe add additional goals on the counter, while the hosts had more possession and tried to find a second to spark an unexpected comeback. Barça’s lead was quadrupled after Kounde assisted Fermín López with a toe poke finish, despite their inability to create chances.
Red Star pulled one back with 10 minutes to go thanks to a spectacular curling attempt by Felicio Milson, but that was all the hosts would get in the dying seconds as the final whistle rang to secure Barça’s victory by a three-goal advantage. This was a strong, mature performance to manage the tough environment and win on the road. Barça stepped on the gas when necessary, and the fact that they can now manage and win games without having to play at full effort for 90 minutes is a positive development as Flick’s team evolves.

Arsenal suffers its first Champions League defeat as Inter Milan snaps the Gunners unbeaten streak.

The Gunners were hoping to regain their confidence after losing to Newcastle in the Premier League over the weekend.
Arsenal, however, failed to capitalise on their dominance, losing 1-0 to Inter Milan.

Matteo Darmian started for Inter, although Henrikh Mkhitaryan, a former Manchester United player, is among the replacements.

Martin Odegaard returned from injury tonight, starting on the bench after being sidelined for four weeks.

Inter Milan started the game well, hitting the woodwork within the first five minutes.
Arsenal later regained possession but did not generate anything. However, it was not until the first half injury time when the home team took the lead.

Inter received a free kick in the Arsenal half, and the ball was blasted into the box by Piotr Zielinski, who flicked it off Mikel Merino’s arm, prompting the referee to signal to the spot.

David Raya misfired, and Hakan Calhanoglu blasted the ball down the middle to put Inter up.

Arsenal maintained their dominant first-half performance but were denied any chance to get back into the game.
Arsenal’s perfect streak was halted in a 1-0 defeat, with the Gunners losing their first goal of the competition.

Charles Okocha’s church wedding video on social media

0

Charles Okocha’s church wedding video Allegedly seen online.

Nollywood’s beloved actor, Charles Okocha, also known as Igwe 2Pac, has social media buzzing after a video of his supposed church wedding began circulating online.

The video captured Charles and his bride—radiant in a flowing white gown—celebrating their big day in a lively but intimate church setting, dancing their way down the aisle with family close behind. However, not everyone is convinced that the actor has officially tied the knot.

Just hours before the video surfaced, Charles had shared the news of his engagement on his social media, posting a collection of pre-wedding photos that immediately went viral.

Fans were thrilled to see him find love, as he introduced his bride-to-be, a stunning woman who stole the hearts of his followers. But when the wedding video hit the internet, reactions ranged from excitement to skepticism.

In the clip, Charles and his bride can be seen joyfully entering the church, accompanied by loved ones, as they make their way to the altar where a priest waits. Despite the charming scene, the church itself appeared a bit empty, sparking questions among fans about whether this was indeed the real deal.

The online comments section quickly became a hotbed of theories. One fan, tamaatrina, excitedly dubbed her “a phenomenal wife,” while another, daddysgirl_treasure, confessed, “I don’t know why, but I feel like this is all a joke.”

Others poked fun at the seemingly empty church, like iamb.olu, who wrote, “Why’s the church so empty? No rice?” Another fan, daraluxehair, laughed, “Even on his wedding day, Charles is catching cruise!”

Adding to the speculation, big_debby pointed out that none of Charles’s Nollywood colleagues posted about the event, which only heightened fans’ doubts. Some even suggested it could all be a movie scene, with iam_mr_painkiller jokingly asking, “Does Charles even look like someone who’d get married?”

While the mystery lingers, fans are split while some rooting for the actor’s new chapter, others suspecting a possible prank.

Daniel Regha reacts on Davido’s US election participation

Daniel Regha reacts on Davido’s US election participation in America, “This is Sickening”

Social media commentator Daniel Regha didn’t hold back his disappointment after Davido celebrated voting in the U.S. election. The Nigerian-American singer took to social media to share his excitement, calling it his “first-time” voting moment in America. But while Davido was thrilled, Regha was not impressed.

Regha took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his disapproval. His main grievance? Davido, who didn’t publicly show any involvement in Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, was now proudly casting his vote in America.

According to Regha, there was “no proof” that Davido voted in Nigeria, which made his enthusiasm for the U.S. election hard to stomach. Regha wrote, “Davido didn’t participate in the 2023 Nigerian election, but he’s quick and happy to vote in the U.S. This is sickening.”

This sparked a wave of reactions. Some people jumped to Davido’s defense, pointing out that as a dual citizen, he has every right to vote in America. One user said, “He’ll vote where he sees hope and future.”

Another commented, “What’s really sickening is you, Regha, jumping into every topic!” There were a few jabs as well, with someone joking, “Since his song didn’t make the chart, he’s making his vote count instead.”

For many, the discussion went beyond just Davido. Some were frustrated that people seemed so quick to criticize him, despite his dual citizenship. Others argued that it’s only natural for him to participate in American elections as well, seeing as he was born in Atlanta and has connections there.

In the end, Regha’s post added fuel to the ongoing conversation about where and how public figures, especially those with dual nationality, choose to exercise their political voices. Whether in Nigeria or the U.S., Davido’s vote – and the reactions to it – certainly got people talking.

What states determined the presidency?
To win the presidency, a contender must receive 270 out of 538 electoral college votes.

Each state is worth a different number of votes based on its population. In most circumstances, the candidate with the most votes in a state wins all of the state’s electoral college votes.
A couple of the most closely contested battleground states supported Democratic nominee Joe Biden in 2020, but Trump won this year.

Kamala Harris performed well in cities such as Madison and Milwaukee, but Trump led in the majority of other areas.

Trump is also expected to win in the battleground states of North Carolina and Georgia, Pennsylvania, with 19 electoral votes, was considered the most important state to monitor. The state is expected to support Donald Trump.

Republicans forecast to control the Senate.

There are also elections for both houses of Congress. The Republicans are expected to capture a majority in the Senate after victories in West Virginia and Ohio.Republicans dominated the House of Representatives prior to this election and are only a few seats short of a majority, but dozens of seats need to be called. If the President’s party controls both of these institutions, he has a high probability of enacting their program.
If each House is controlled by the opposing party, further negotiations will be required.
