The students father, Ifeanyi Ikpeatusim had sued the school for negligence that led to the death his 9-year-old daughter, Kamzie who had been admitted as a boarding student.

In the suit, which was filed under CV/1738/18, Ikpeatusim claimed that the Louisville Girls school’s failure to provide proper medical care after Kamzie became ill soon after she was admitted and resumed classes had caused her untimely death.

After granting the N100 million cost in the lawsuit, Justice Sylvanus Oriji issued a judgment in which he stipulated a 10% interest rate on the judgment amount from April 8 till complete payment.

Additionally, Judge granted N300,000 to cover the suit’s expenses.

While delivering the court’s ruling, Justice Oriji stated that the evidence demonstrated that Louisville Girls school and its representatives had engaged in negligence by neglecting to provide Kamzie with sufficient medical attention.

Justice Oriji stated that the improvement of the school’s sickbay after the occurrence was a noteworthy result of the case. He said it was a positive development that doctors were there to see students twice a day.

Although the claimant had requested that the court order the school to rename one of its buildings in Kamzie’s honor, Justice Oriji pointed out that the sickbay’s improvement was enough to demonstrate that the Louisville girls school was correcting its error.

He said, “The court thinks that the improvement in the sickbay, ensuring doctors are available twice daily, is in honour of Kamzie, as part of reforms recommended by her family.

“The claimant should take solace in the fact that Kamzie has been honoured by the school through these improvements.”
