The primaries for different political parties which held at various times between last week and Tuesday April 8, have produced the candidates for the six political parties vying for the number one seat in Anambra State.
Chioma Ifemeludike, a Nigerian actress and filmmaker popularly known as IfeDike, is set to contest for the most revered position in Anambra state in the November 8 governorship election.
The filmmaker was named the African Action Congress’s (AAC) flagbearer, setting her up to face off against current governor Chukwuma Soludo and other contenders. Ifemeludike was the party’s state chairperson before rising to the position of candidate.

Chioma Ifemeludike announced this development in an Instagram post. She pledged in her acceptance speech to uphold the confidence that party members had placed in her. According to her, the party will make sure that Anambra residents, especially women, children, and young people, are given the tools they need to improve as citizens.
Here’s What to Know About Ifemeludike
A profile of Tenacity
Ifemeludike’s academic background in Political Science from Anambra State University is the foundation of his rise to prominence in politics. She was reared by her mother after losing her father at a young age. She was born on July 9 in Jos, Plateau state; her exact birth year is still unknown.
Her ten-year creative career began with the creation of her YouTube series, “Corpers Heaven,” which was motivated by her time in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Chioma Ifemeludike is well-known for creating Igbo-language films and is a supporter of indigenous storytelling. Her credits include “Painful Truth,” “Commissioner for Happiness,” “Mortuary Gate,” “Plantain Girl,” and “Made in Heaven.”

THE POLITICAL MANIFESTO
In a recent interview, Chioma Ifemeludike dismissed accusations of inexperience by citing her political credentials, including her time as AAC chairperson and her past as a “female unionist.”
She explained that her nomination was the outcome of preparation and grassroots connections rather than a surprise adding that she has always been passionate about people.
She further revealed that her manifesto focused largely on tangible social interventions, including the introduction of solar power initiatives, subsidised school fees, educational loans and grants for indigent students, and a revised focus on state security.

NAVIGATING CONTROVERSY
The actress has been in the public eye before, most famously in 2021 when she disclosed that she had a close relationship with preacher Johnson Suleman.
Chioma Ifemeludike claimed that Lynda-Clems Bishop, a coworker, set up the encounter and that she came forward because her conscience “couldn’t hold it anymore.”
She also gained notoriety that year after disclosing a firsthand account of experiencing demonic domination as she slept, which she linked to having viewed obscene material online earlier that night.

As the November 8 election approaches, Chioma Ifemeludike’s campaign represents a fusion of her populist appeal, grassroots political experience, and a promise to bring a fresh perspective to the governance of Anambra.
There is however, mixed reaction over her candidacy and concern if the actress will make the cut given her opposition.
