Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has faulted the reported proposal by state governors to increase the national minimum wage to N100,000, insisting that the amount is still inadequate for Nigerian workers.
In a statement shared on his official page, Sowore argued that the proposed wage does not reflect the current economic realities and rising cost of living in the country.
According to him, N100,000 would barely sustain an average worker, considering the soaring prices of food, housing, transportation, healthcare, education, and other essential needs.
He maintained that the governors are fully aware of the economic hardship facing Nigerians but continue to approve what he described as “poverty wages” while public officials enjoy luxury at government expense.

Sowore stressed that a minimum wage should guarantee dignity and decent living conditions for workers rather than prolong hardship and suffering.
