A governorship aspirant in Enugu State under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Dozie Ogenyi, has called on his supporters to remain calm following delays in the party’s primary election process, after election officials reportedly failed to show up at scheduled venues despite hours of waiting.

Reports indicate that the NDC conducted its primary elections across the country on Friday; however, Enugu State, where governorship aspirant Dozie Ogenyi is contesting, was one of the major areas affected by disruptions.

Party members in the state were said to have waited for several hours without the arrival of any electoral officials.

Dozie Ogenyi, who was accompanied by a senatorial aspirant, Bishop Oscar Okwudili Ossai, alongside other party leaders, visited several local government areas where he was received by large crowds of supporters.

He acknowledged the absence of election officials at all the designated primary venues despite the strong turnout of party members, and urged supporters to remain patient, noting that the national leadership of the party would provide further direction.

While addressing supporters in Nsukka, Igbo-Eze South, Uzo-Uwani, and other LGAs he visited, he said: “Those expected from Enugu to conduct the primaries have caused unnecessary delay.”

It was also observed that in Nsukka LGA, after waiting in vain for election officials, party supporters lined up behind their preferred aspirants as anticipation for the exercise continued without progress.
