The Federal Government has reportedly secured the release of 100 schoolchildren abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to reports, bandits attacked the Niger school on November 21, 2025, in the remote Papiri community.
Armed men, who arrived around 2 a.m. on motorbikes, allegedly invaded the school dormitories over the course of three hours, abducting 315 people — 303 students and 12 teachers.

Security forces and local hunters were deployed to search nearby forests for the abducted students.
Reports indicate that, in the immediate aftermath of the attack, 50 pupils managed to escape on the first day and were reunited with their families. However, 265 people—including 253 children and all 12 teachers—remained in captivity.
