Nigerian gospel artist Asu Ekiye, popularly known as the “Prince of the Niger Delta,” has announced the end of his 28-year marriage to Kunemofa Asu.
The Bayelsa-born musician shared the news on his Facebook page on Thursday in a post titled “Public Notice,” where he described the marriage as a deeply personal journey of growth, learning, and self-reflection.
While Ekiye disclosed that the union actually ended a year ago, he did not state the specific reasons behind the separation.
In a post on his Facebook page on Thursday, he said, “Some chapters, however significant and memorable, eventually come to an end.
He said, “I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to KUNEMOFA ASU has come to an end, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season.
“I choose to close this chapter with grace, gratitude and dignity, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago,” he wrote.
“I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to bring the perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves,” he added.

Backstory…
Asu Ekiye’s announcement comes after nearly three decades of marriage to Kunemofa Asu, a relationship that began in 1998 and produced four children.

Long before his recent announcement about the end of his 28-year marriage, Asu Ekiye had already established himself as one of the notable names in Nigerian gospel music. Popularly known as the “Prince of the Niger Delta,” Ekiye became recognised for a sound that brought together contemporary gospel with traditional Niger Delta and Ijaw musical influences. His official website says his music has helped take the Niger Delta gospel sound beyond its immediate cultural environment.
Ekiye’s major breakthrough came with the release of “Woekilemo” in 2001, a song that significantly increased his visibility and became one of the defining records of his career.
