Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has praised the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, for launching the joint Ogun-Lagos security initiative, Operation Kosaye, describing it as a bold, proactive and intelligence-driven move that has greatly improved security in both states.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Ogun State Government, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the governor said the operation has recorded major successes through coordinated security efforts, including raids on forests and criminal hideouts along the Ogun-Lagos corridor.
According to Abiodun, the operation has led to the neutralisation of armed bandits, arrest of several suspects, and rescue of kidnapped victims.
He noted that the achievements of Operation Kosaye have helped restore public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force and strengthened trust in the ability of security agencies to protect lives and property.
The governor said the ongoing offensive against criminal elements has made Ogun and Lagos increasingly unsafe for kidnappers, bandits and other violent offenders who previously exploited border communities as hideouts.
Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies with logistics, operational tools and technology to improve policing and security effectiveness across the state.
He added that continued investment in security infrastructure, surveillance systems and operational mobility has complemented the efforts of the police and other agencies in maintaining peace and order.
The governor also commended the Commissioners of Police in Ogun and Lagos, CP Bode Ojajuni and CP Tijani Fatai, alongside officers involved in the operation, for their professionalism, bravery and dedication.
He stressed that the success of Operation Kosaye highlights the importance of collaboration, intelligence sharing and coordinated inter-state efforts in tackling security challenges, urging other states to adopt similar security models to prevent criminals from exploiting state boundaries.
BACKSTORY…
Operation Kosaye is a joint security initiative launched by the Nigeria Police Force to tackle the rising cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, and violent crimes along the border communities linking Ogun State and Lagos State.
The operation was introduced following growing concerns over criminal gangs exploiting forests and isolated routes within the Ogun-Lagos corridor as hideouts and escape routes after carrying out attacks. These border areas have, in recent months, witnessed cases of abductions, banditry, and robberies, prompting stronger collaboration between security agencies in both states.
The initiative focuses on intelligence-led raids, surveillance, and coordinated patrols aimed at flushing out criminals, disrupting their networks, and improving public safety. Authorities say the strategy is part of broader efforts to strengthen inter-state policing and prevent criminals from taking advantage of jurisdictional boundaries.
