Several people trapped as building collapses in Minna.
Several people were trapped when a one-story building collapsed in Minna, Niger State, on May 17, 2024. Located in the Sabon Gari area, the collapse saw emergency officials rescue seven individuals, now receiving treatment at Minna General Hospital.
Rescue operations, including manual debris removal, are underway, with machines expected soon to aid in rescuing any remaining trapped persons. The cause of the collapse is currently unknown. Hussaini Ibrahim of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency confirmed ongoing rescue efforts. Bako Ismail of the Niger State Urban Development Board noted that the building had been illegally converted to a story building despite repeated attempts to halt the conversion.
