Breaking News: FAAN closes KFC branch at Lagos airport after refusing entry to former Ogun governor’s son due to his disability.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken the decision to close down a branch of the popular fast-food chain, KFC, situated at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos State. This action was announced on Thursday through a statement signed by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN.

The closure follows a report on social media by a Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM), Debola Daniel, who alleged discriminatory treatment at the KFC outlet located in the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

In response to the report, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, swiftly intervened by deploying a team comprising key management personnel to investigate the incident. Based on the team’s findings, FAAN made the decision to shut down the KFC facility where the incident occurred.

Furthermore, FAAN has instructed the management of KFC to issue a written apology to the affected PRM and to visibly display a policy statement of non-discrimination at the entrance of their facility at MMIA before resuming operations.

FAAN expressed sincere apologies to the affected Passenger with Reduced Mobility and assured all airport users of its commitment to safeguarding the rights of every passenger.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Debola Daniel, son of former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, shared his experience of being denied entry into the KFC outlet due to his wheelchair use. His social media post highlighted the systemic challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in Nigeria and emphasized the need for greater inclusivity and respect for human dignity. #naijaeyesblog

Debola’s account of the incident sparked public outrage and prompted FAAN to take swift action in addressing the issue of discrimination at the airport facility.
