The Rivers State Police Command has issued a warning, characterising it as a criminal crime, against the growing practice of women collecting transport fares from males then skipping meetings.
The warning was circulated in a widely shared video on X on Wednesday in which Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer, claimed that the practice amounted to fraud and that it might be punishable by law.
This comes after a viral incident where a young lady identified as Jennifer was ordered by court to pay back the sum of 400,000 naira after receiving fifty thousand naira as transport to visit a man but refused to show up.
“Why will you collect money from man without going to see him. It is an offence, a punishable offence.
“It is obtaining money under false pretence. 419,” she explained.
Iringe-Koko emphasised that such acts are classified as acquiring by false pretence and that if police receive complaints, perpetrators may be arrested and charged.

She also advised the public to stay away from dishonest financial transactions.
The video has since sparked a lot of reactions on social media, with some Nigerians claiming that it is fraud and others contending that it is more of a moral failing than a crime.
