Eight confirmed dead, six injured in Anambra road crash
After approximately eight persons died and six others sustained serious injuries in a road crash that happened along the Nteje-Awka road, near the New Terminal, Ukpo Junction, in the Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State.
This is reported when at around 9:00 pm on Sunday, April 27, there occurred an accident involving a Mack tanker that did not carry a registration and a Toyota Hiace bus with the registration number EKP375XM.

Onabe said this fact was confirmed on Monday, April 28, by an official service statement by the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra Sector Command, Margaret Onabe.
She said, “Rescue teams were taken to the de@d victims identified and confirmed by a doctor, while others who survived are being cared for in a hospital.”
She posited that the crash occurred due to high speed.
She said, “The announcement of a fatal crash by the Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra Sector Command occurred on 27 April approximately at 9 pm at Nteje-Awka, near the New Terminal close to Ukpo Junction.
“According to accounts narrated by eyewitnesses and preliminary investigations, the accident was caused when a Mack tanker with no registration number ran into a Toyota Hiace bus bearing the registration number EKP375XM. The bus was traveling from Abakaliki toward Onitsha and speeding at dangerous overtaking before colliding with that tanker coming towards Awka on a single carriageway. The crash recorded eight casualties-dead: four males and four females, while six more-two males and four females-were injured.”

“The FRSC Anambra Sector Command extends its condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured. The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, has urged drivers to prioritize their safety and that of others by maintaining a safe speed and ensuring that the road is clear before overtaking to prevent such tragic incidents.
“Drivers must ensure they drive at a minimum safe speed and only overtake when the road is clear.
“The rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje attended to the injured victims and transported them to the hospital for treatment, while the de@d were taken to Jerusalem Mortuary Nteje after confirmation by a doctor.”
She said the sector commander visited the crash scene, inspected the crashed vehicles at Nteje Police Station, and met with the NUPENG chief of the task force.
“She also visited the surviving victims at Regina Caeli Hospital and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital to assess their condition and offer support.
“The proactive approach of the Sector Commander proves the commitment of the FRSC Anambra Sector Command to mitigating the risk of road crashes and ensuring the safety of all road users. Just like NUPENG, the command engages other stakeholders in the post-crash event aimed at finding the backyard for improvement to be made in future prevention.” she adds.
