A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Olufemi Oguntoyinbo, has said that the move by opposition parties to present a single candidate against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 is a step that could help “save Nigeria.”
Oguntoyinbo made this known in a statement issued on Sunday, which was made available in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The development comes after key figures from various opposition parties met in Ibadan on Saturday to strategise ahead of the 2027 general elections, where they reportedly agreed to rally behind one presidential candidate to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting to the resolution, Oguntoyinbo of PDP described the move as a positive and strategic decision capable of strengthening Nigeria’s democratic system.
He commended opposition leaders for setting aside individual interests in favour of collective action, noting that such unity could reshape the country’s political direction.
According to him, “I commend the decision of opposition leaders to field a single candidate in the 2027 presidential election. This is a wise decision that can lead to victory for the opposition.”
He added that the initiative is timely and necessary, stressing that Nigeria’s democratic future depends on collaboration and unity among opposition parties rather than personal ambitions.
