In an announcement made by the Federal Government of Nigeria, there will be free train rides to various destinations nationwide. This free train ride service will run from December 20th to January 6th, 2025.
The aim of this initiative is to help provide a cushion effect against the high costs of transportation that will be experienced in this festive season.
Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, disclosed this at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting (FEC), which was presided over by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
This wouldn’t be the first time free train rides will be announced in festive season as a way of support from the federal government.
This announcement has been greeted positively by Nigerians who applaud this initiative by the government. Some say this will definitely reduce the cost of transportation on their pockets, while others are a bit wary about the security provided since there will be mass usage of the trains.
