According to reports, the African Democratic Congress(ADC) has been divided after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi adopted it as a platform to run against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The PUNCH revealed that the party secretly changed its constitution to provide new members equal rights and benefits amid the drama that was developing. Insiders saw this as a calculated attempt to accommodate prominent defectors before the coalition.

Nevertheless, the action caused opposition from certain state officials who promised not to cede their posts to contenders.

Several stated that they would not resign for the new power blocs, while others were amenable to leadership changes in the interest of unity.

Established in 2005, the party has won elections on a limited scale, the ADC’s electoral successes have not extended beyond the Federal House of Representatives and state levels.

Ralph Nwosu, the national chairman of the ADC, stated that the party was prepared to serve as the face of the anti-Tinubu coalition.

While some ADC state leaders including Ogun, Rivers, Buachi, Kano, Kebbi and Gombe have agreed to this decision by the national leadership, other state Chairman , the likes of Osun, Plateau, Delta and Benue state chairman among others have maintained that it was impossible to change the party leadership because of the coalition adding that new members would not be allowed to make old members feel useless.
