Alliance Hospital saves Nigeria over $1bn in medical tourism.

Dr. Christopher Otabor, the Managing Director of Alliance Hospital in Abuja, proudly shared that his hospital has saved Nigeria over $1 billion in medical tourism. This achievement reflects the hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality medical care, which has encouraged Nigerians who would typically seek healthcare abroad to stay home instead.

During an event organized by the Federal Capital Territory branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), where Dr. Otabor was honored with an Award of Excellence in Medical Entrepreneurship, he highlighted the hospital’s growth and success. He recounted that Alliance Hospital, which began as a clinic in 2011, expanded into a full-fledged hospital by 2014, driven by a vision to reduce the outflow of Nigerians seeking medical treatment overseas.

Dr. Otabor emphasized that the hospital’s advanced medical equipment and experienced staff have been key to its success. Notably, Alliance Hospital has performed over 100 kidney transplants, 156 spine surgeries, 72 knee replacements, and 60 hip replacements, among other complex procedures, all within Nigeria. These are treatments that would have previously required patients to travel abroad, thereby saving significant amounts of money and demonstrating the hospital’s capability.

He also noted that Alliance Hospital is now attracting not only Nigerians but also individuals from the U.S., U.K., India, and other countries, who come to Nigeria for their medical needs. This shift is a testament to the hospital’s world-class services at more affordable prices compared to international standards.

Dr. Otabor expressed his gratitude for the award from the NMA, particularly valuing the recognition from his professional peers. He sees the award as a validation of his efforts in medical entrepreneurship and as an encouragement to continue providing exceptional healthcare in Nigeria.
