ANC loses majority in South Africa election.
ANC loses outright majority in South Africa’s election, securing 159 seats out of 400. Opposition parties, including the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the newly-formed uMkonto weSizwe (MK), gained ground. Former President Jacob Zuma’s absence signaled a potential challenge to the results, while other party leaders attended the announcement. The DA expressed readiness to negotiate a coalition government to prevent Zuma’s return. MK denounced the election process, with their spokesperson stating that attending the announcement would imply endorsing what they deemed an illegal declaration.
