APC Campaign in Ondo Faces Disruption as Youths Demand Removal of T-Shirts.
Some angry young people in Ondo State interrupted an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign event and made supporters take off their party T-shirts.
INEC had permitted the start of campaigning in public from June 19 for the off-cycle governorship election in Ondo scheduled to be held on November 16.
Overall seventeen (17) political parties are fielding candidates for the election. No political party has nominated a female candidate while one (1) candidate nominated by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is a person with a disability (a paraplegic).
Some of the candidates on the list include Lucky Aiyedatiwa (All Progressives Congress), Olorunfemi Ayodele (Labour Party), Olugbenga Omogbemi (NNPP), Ajayi Alfred (Peoples Democratic Party), and Akingboye Benson (Social Democratic Party).
In a video seen on Friday, the youths attacked an APC campaign vehicle passing through their community and demanded those wearing APC-related items to remove them.
A voice in the video said, “People are feeling hungry and you are campaigning, God punish you all.”
The incident has sparked reactions, with many claiming citizens are nearing a breaking point and hinting at a potential revolution due to hardships under the APC-led government.
A Twitter user @fakooluwafemi said, “There is serious anger in the land. God help this nation.”
Another user @JoexgJosep wrote, “No be their fault na their own daily bread dey dey work for no be sey dey love apc.”
This development comes days after Osun residents assaulted a member of the House of Representatives for allegedly failing to fulfil campaign promises.
The House of Representatives member representing the Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin federal constituency of Osun State, Rep Olusoji Adetunji, visited Ada – his home town ahead of the Sallah festivities when the constituents accosted him.
A viral video showed the moment the Reps member was ambushed by his constituents following his arrival.
According to reports, the people of Ada felt insulted by the Sallah handouts he came to give them while riding in his expensive car.
This incident has generated mixed reactions from netizens, with many saying more of it should be expected across the country soon due to hunger and economic hardship.
