Dele Momodu- Only a strong Northern candidate can defeat Tinubu
With an honorary title of a presidential candidate and duty as a senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has insisted on adequately presenting a serious alternative candidate from the North to oppose President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

On Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, April 30, Momodu gave a sad assessment of Nigerian politics, stating that while there is great opportunity for principled discourse, people with opportunistic tendencies now have more of a say. Home decor ideas in Nigeria
He said that Nigeria’s politics is “an optical illusion; somewhat like magic, the more you look, the less you see.”
Among politicians, he said, “there seems to be inordinate pursuit of self-interest without regard for the collective good.”
He said the North is strategically important for presidential elections because the North feels marginalised under Tinubu, with accusations of favouritism to his Southern cronies.
He explained that the disaffection of the North is a good motivation for energized voting: hence, it becomes pertinent for the opposition party to field a strong candidate from the North who would unify and galvanise support.

Momodu insisted: “I think another strong candidate from the North is the only one who can really confront Tinubu.”
“Southern man wasting time; PDP- or any coalition-must strategize because of power dynamics. If they truly want to contest Tinubu’s position, they cannot expect to do so with just a Southern candidate,” he further stated.
Momodu contended that establishing a united front that included eminent figures from the North such as Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso would boost the opposition’s chances.
“Now there is a split in the PDP. Half are negotiating for coalition, while the other half insists on the internal party. All this is confusing. Recently I spoke to our governor in Bauchi, who believes that we should not run away from the PDP; we should help PDP draw others.”
“But should the PDP have resisted the changes, on the contrary, what remains? The collapse of this party maybe be the case.
“We have seen many parties disband themselves from history. Look at UPN or NPN—where is it now? Even the AD that was anchored in Lagos is nearly gone. PDP, too, might go on this trajectory, given the absence of major changes.”
While backing Atiku Abubakar, he said, “I saw people in Delta celebrating their alignment with the mainstream. What I wonder is what benefits have actually come down to the people over the years. For two decades, founding members of the PDP have been trying to relate to the masses-just like relating electricity to the national grid-and nothing has been able to come out of that.”

“The allegation of Atiku joining APC is downright ridiculous; I can assure you that. The APC itself is a party with a myriad of problems, so disunited and devoid of any level of discipline as to address issues that stand between it and itself.”
