Prof. Sonni Tyoden, Plateau State’s most recent deputy governor, passed away after a brief illness. Simon Lalong, the state’s previous governor, revealed the tragic development to news men in Jos, the state capital, on Sunday.
Additionally, the immediate past governor visited the deceased’s home to offer the family condolences on Sunday.

Professor Tyoden, was a distinguished scholar and former vice chancellor of the University of Jos, and then served as deputy governor under former governor Simon Lalong from 2015 to 2023 under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He described the deceased, his former deputy as a confidante, mentor, and teacher, and a reliable political friend. According to Lalong, the former governor who passed away provided stability to the most recent administration.

The former governor of Plateau state, while expressing deep sorrow said, “He brought significant stability, wisdom, and experience to our government, he worked tirelessly to ensure that we had a successful eight-year tenure.”
Lalong further highlighted Professor Tyoden’s academic achievements, adding that he was a mentor to numerous students who have achieved professional success in addition to being a distinguished scholar in teaching and research.

He offered condolences to his wife, Mrs. Abigail Tyoden, their children, and the entire family, and prayed for the peaceful rest of Professor Tyoden’s soul.
