Political Earthquake: Aregbesola, Family Dump APC in Osun
Members of the Omoluabi Progressives, a faction loyal to Rauf Aregbesola, the former governor of Osun State, have decided to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to information from Naijaeyes
A statement issued by Abosede Oluwaseun, the group’s Organising and Publicity Secretary, indicated that the choice to exit the APC was reached by consensus among stakeholders after a session endorsing the previous resolution of members from the 332 wards of Osun during its monthly meeting in Ilesa on Sunday.
The statement revealed several reasons for the decision, including being marginalized within the party, the suspension and expulsion of the group’s leaders without due process, and ongoing disregard for the group’s structure, among other grievances.
The statement further disclosed, “They voiced their dissatisfaction with how the Osun APC managed its internal conflicts, which resulted in the party’s significant losses in the previous election cycle, a situation they acknowledged has diminished its influence and appeal among the people of Osun.
“The group was called to a voice vote by the leadership, where they confirmed their willingness to shift their allegiance to another political entity in preparation for the 2026 gubernatorial election in the state.”
While addressing the members, the immediate-past Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, praised them for their dedication and resilience to the values of character, integrity, and good governance.
Aregbesola supported the resolution and emphasized the need to work diligently for the success of the Omoluabi Progressives and its mission to establish good governance in Osun.
He assured members that positive outcomes from ongoing efforts by the group’s leadership to adequately prepare for future tasks would soon be evident.
Aregbesola mentioned, “I am genuinely pleased that all of you have expressed a unified position. This is not merely a single voice, but a collective front that will lead us toward victory in our upcoming endeavors.
“I want to remind you that the journey we are undertaking is aimed at enhancing the prosperity of our beloved state through responsible leadership.
“The path we are following is a smooth one, highly encouraging, and filled with favorable prospects that will elevate our state to greatness.
“Thus, you must demonstrate greater commitment and attract genuine individuals who are willing to walk alongside us on this honorable path.
“We welcome all, irrespective of their political, religious, or socio-cultural backgrounds. We possess the numbers, strength, and political insight to offer leadership that will make Osun a standout among its peers. With God’s grace, we will succeed.”
Earlier, Alhaji Azeez Adesiji, Chairman of the Omoluabi Progressives, expressed gratitude to members for their steadfastness.
Adesiji informed the assembly that with the members’ determination to associate with a new political platform, efforts must focus on educating them about the principles of true progressivism, which is central to the Omoluabi Progressives.
The former council leader, who appreciated their collaboration over the past 17 months, promised to continually provide leadership that safeguards members’ interests.
“I am pleased to report that meetings are occurring across all local government areas in the state, with significant progress made.
“Reports regarding attendance and new membership have been very encouraging thus far. Let’s maintain this momentum.
“For us, the endeavor to reclaim Osun is a shared responsibility. Please rest assured that we are always prepared to consider your interests.
“What we seek from you is your dedication to our principles so that we may work together to restore Osun to good governance in 2026,” stated the Chairman.
