The governor of Edo state has received some accolades for promptly tackling the security issues in the state, following the Edo mob killing of 16 Northern travellers.
Recall that travellers, who were wrongly identified to be kidnappers, were brutally killed by some residents of the Uromi town in Edo last week.

This triggered a gang attack on the innocent travellers who were later discovered to be a group of hunters en route to Kano from Port Harcourt.

Following the Edo mob killing and the uproar that ensued afterwards, Governor Monday Okpebholo promptly sprang into action by visiting the community and engaging in dialogue with community leaders and other stakeholder to ensure that the incident does not occur, restoring normalcy to the community.
Responding to the Edo mob killing, Ahmed Tijani Ibn Mustapha, the Special Assistant to the Senate President on Digital Communications acknowledged Governor Okpebholo’s efforts stating that he (Okpebholo) had eliminated any reason for a state of emergency.
In a statement on Sunday, March 30 Tijani said “While this event is undeniably distressing, what stands out is the swift, decisive, and uncompromising response of Governor Monday Okpebholo, who has left no one in doubt about his administration’s commitment to justice, security, and the rule of law,”
Following Governor Monday’s swift response to the Edo Mob Killing, Tijani further condemned individuals accusing the governor of inability to handle the state’s security describing such comments as misinforming.

He said “Critics who claim that Governor Okpebholo is not on top of security matters are either misinformed or deliberately ignoring his administration’s concrete efforts. Just weeks ago, he donated a fleet of utility vehicles to security agencies to enhance mobility and response capabilities across Edo State.
“The truth is, Governor Okpebholo’s administration has shown more urgency in addressing security challenges than many of his counterparts. The fact that calm has been restored in Uromi, investigations are ongoing, and perpetrators are being pursued proves that Edo State does not need a state of emergency—it needs continued support for its existing security framework.
“The people of Edo State deserve a government that acts—and in Governor Okpebholo, they have one. Those calling for a state of emergency should look elsewhere; Edo is in firm, capable hands,” he concluded.
