The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, paid a courtesy visit to Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State on Wednesday, offering condolences and financial compensation to the families of the 16 victims of the Edo mob killing in Uromi, Edo State.
Senator Barau visited the grieving families, who hailed from Bunkure, Kibiya, Rano, and Garko LGAs, at the At-Taqwa Mosque in Sabon Fegi, Bunkure LGA.
Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji, the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission, and other dignitaries accompanied the Senate Deputy President.

The visit was described in full in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate, Ismail Mudashir.
Following this, the DSP reassured the relatives of the Edo mob killing victims that justice would be done and that those responsible would be brought to book.
Recall that the Edo state governor Monday Okpebholo previously paid a visit to Uromi community, also assuring full compensation to the families of the Edo mob killing victims.

He revealed that two additional people had been arrested in relation to the Edo mob killing, joining the 14 suspects who had already been taken into custody.
Senator Barau declared that a total of N16 million will be donated to the 16 families who had lost loved ones, with N1 million going to each of them to ease their pain.
He said “I am here to express my deepest sympathies for the tragic incident that claimed the lives of 16 of our brothers last Thursday. May Allah grant them Jannatul Firdaus and provide swift recovery to those injured,” Senator Barau stated.
“The incident deeply troubled me. I immediately contacted the state governor, security agencies, and all relevant stakeholders. They acted promptly, leading to the arrest of 14 suspects initially, and subsequently, two more. The state governor, who visited me in Abuja, has assured me of the state government’s support,” he added.
“We will not treat this matter lightly. We are committed to ensuring that the culprits are brought to book and face the full force of the law”.
On behalf of the families of the Edo mob killing victims, Sheikh Zainul Abidina Auwal, the local Chief Imam, thanked Senator Barau for his efforts to seek justice and praised him as a leader essential to the advancement of the country.
