Ex-Governor Yahaya Bello Requests Transfer of Trial to Kogi State”
Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, facing a 19-count charge by the EFCC for alleged money laundering and misappropriation of N80.2 billion, has requested his trial be transferred to Kogi State. His legal team, led by Abdulwahab Mohammed, SAN, argues that only the Lokoja Division of the Federal High Court has the jurisdiction for this case. Despite a warrant for his arrest, Bello did not appear in court, prompting the EFCC to seek action against his defense for contempt. The request for transfer is pending a response from the prosecution.
