The federal government of Nigeria has disclosed that is has hired foreign military experts to educate and further equip Nigerian soldiers with anti-terrorism and hostage rescue skills.

This was revealed by the Minster of Defence, Badaru Abubakar during the launch of a new training programme for about 800 soldiers in Kano state.
The Minister of stated that in addition to the training by experts, the federal government will further make provisions to equip the soldiers with advanced technology and arms to aid their ability to withstand security threats.
He stated that for the first and initial segment of the training, 800 soldiers will be trained with another 800 set to follow afterwards. He explained that this move to engage foreign experts was vital to combat the changing nature of terrorists threats and attacks.
He said “In the initial phase alone, 2,400 Nigerian soldiers will receive the specialized training before the program moves into its second stage”.

Although, the minister of defence highlighted that the military experts were selected from different countries, he however did not give details on the specific countries engaged for this training exercise.
