FG Offers Free Maternal Care in 154 Hospitals, VVF surgeries in 18 Centers
The Nigerian government has identified 154 healthcare facilities nationwide to offer free medical care to women with obstetric complications.
This refers to women experiencing complications during pregnancy, childbirth, or postpartum period, posing a risk to both the mother and baby’s health.
Professor Ali Pate, the coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, revealed on Channels Television’s Politics Today that the selected health facilities have skilled personnel, experienced professionals and standard equipment.
Professor Ali Pate also announced that 18 centers across the country will offer free treatment for vesicovaginal fistula (VVF).
An obstetric complication refers to any difficulty or abnormality that occurs during labor or delivery.

Obstetric difficulties are conditions that can damage a mother’s or baby’s health that arise during pregnancy, labour, delivery, or the early postpartum period.
Typical examples may include: Preterm labour, postpartum hemorrhage, gestational diabetes, and preeclampsia.
According to Pate, the health and well-being of Nigerians are important to President Tinubu’s vision, placing priority on reducing maternal deaths by ensuring no woman dies due to inability to afford treatment.
