Impeachment attempt: Wike could divide us just like he did to PDP, APC chieftain warns.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamu Garba, has cautioned that the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, could ”destabilize” the party, similar to what happened with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Garba warned that if he continues what he described as excessive interference in the affairs of Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, he could cause divisions within the APC just as he did with the PDP before 2027.

In a Facebook post, Garba advised him to show restraint despite his perceived influence.

Wike and Fubara have been at odds over the political leadership of Rivers state since the governor took office in 2023.

The conflict has significantly impacted the Rivers state House of Assembly, where 27 lawmakers initially loyal to Wike were reported to have defected to APC, Though they later denied the claims.

This alleged defection resulted in the formation of a parallel Assembly with Victor Oko-Jumbo assuming the role of speaker.

However, the Supreme Court later ruled in favor reinstating the Martins Amaewhule-led Assembly.

On Monday, the Assembly launched on impeachment process against Governor Fubara, citing allegations of gross misconduct.

Garba, in a statement, cautioned that if Wike continues to exert excessive influence over Fubara, he could destabilize the APC just as he did with PDP before 2027.

However, Garba wrote: “If we allow Wike to continue his overreach on Fubara in Rivers, he’ll scatter us before 2027 as he scatters the PDP before 2023.

“Amid current situation, the timing is very poor.

“There is wisdom in exercising restraint even when you appear more powerful.”
