Kenneth Okonkwo Slams Tinubu Over Fubara’s Suspension!
Veteran Nollywood actor and former Labour Party spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo has condemned the six-month suspension of governor Sim Fubara, deputy, and members of the Rivers state’s House of Assembly as a flagrant violation of both law and constitution.

President Tinubu had gone previously for declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State because of political chaos stretching for too long, paralysis of governance, and skyrocketing insecurity.

Meanwhile, Okonkwo, through his Instagram page, schooled the president on the essence of a state of emergency, explaining that it was never intended to dislodge an incumbent governor or dismantle an elected government.
By the reference to History; he has redefined the criteria necessary to judge former president Goodluck Jonathan’s conduct when history threatened similar calamities without stripping elected governors of their mandates and has made his criticism of Tinubu extreme and politically motivated.

Okonkwo lambasted the move as a planned power grab to take Rivers State from opposition and establish compliant agents.
He contended that if indeed Tinubu was out for justice, it should include members of his own cabinet who are equally guilty, instead of exclusively punishing the city’s political rivals.

According to him; “STATE OF EMERGENCY IN RIVERS STATE BY TINUBU
“The removal of the elected Governor and members of the State House of Assembly from Rivers State for 6 months within the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by Tinubu, is illegal and unconstitutional.
“To declare state of emergency means that some fundamental rights of citizens get suspended in order for the government to restore order while the state of anarchy persists. Such does not include removal of the elected representatives of the people.
“President Jonathan declared emergency in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa to contain the Bokoharam terrorists, without removing Gov Shettima and others from office. Security of Nigeria is the exclusive reserve of the Federal Government, which controls all the security forces. The Governor has no police to command.
“It is illogical to blame the Governor for security failures of the Federal Government in Rivers. This is a power grab by the President to take away the State of Rivers from the opposition party and from people of Rivers State.”
“If Tinubu was meant to punish every party in the crisis then why has he not extended such punishments to some members of his cabinet that are parties to such crisis?”
“In that regards I ask the National Assembly to reject this illegal removal of the elected representatives of Rivers State and call it undemocratic.”
“Nothing much extraordinary is happening in Rivers State. There is a gang up by state looters against a Governor who refused to give them the keys to the purse of Rivers State.

“The Rivers people support their governor so much that it makes it next to impossible for either the federal government or the President to succeed in their attempts to remove him.
It is unfortunate for a sitting President to unravel our democracy. All democratic forces now need to rise up against this undemocratic action.”
