Ladoja asserts Makinde lacks authority to appoint new Olubadan.
Former Governor Rashidi Ladoja of Oyo State emphasized that Governor Seyi Makinde does not possess the authority to appoint the new Olubadan of Ibadan land. Ladoja clarified his stance during Eid-el-Kabir celebrations at his Ibadan residence, refuting claims that Makinde’s delay in coronating the new Olubadan was targeted at him.
Ladoja asserted that the coronation of the Olubadan is traditionally conducted by the Oluwo of Ibadan land, not the governor. He mentioned that while Makinde’s role is to present the staff and instruments of office, the actual crowning ceremony takes place at Ile Ose-Meji before proceeding to Mapo.
Regarding the health of the Olubadan-designate, Ladoja expressed confidence in his fitness, noting that despite his age, he has been preparing for the role since 1983.
