Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has denied rumours that certain influential people are affecting President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“He has shown that he has the courage. Under Tinubu, there is nothing like cabal. This is a president that is in charge,” Wike said at the 2025 OAU Distinguished Personality Lecture in Ile-Ife, the Osun State capital, on Thursday.

Wike, a lawyer and former Rivers State governor, gave the event’s keynote address.
Wike stated that Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, among other former Nigerian presidents, lacked the courage to eliminate the fuel subsidy and standardise foreign exchange rates.
According to Wike, if Tinubu hadn’t eliminated fuel subsidy fraud, a lot of people would still be profiting from it.
Nigeria can yet rise and shine in glory if the proper governance frameworks are put in place, he added, despite the fact that the country has underperformed in the last 60 years since gaining independence and that all conceivable fault lines are cracking.

For Nigeria to move forward, the minister emphasised the need to restore confidence and fortify the bonds of unity in diversity.
According to Wike, all residents must have a clear vision, make sacrifices, work hard, and have a purpose if desired Nigeria is to be realised. “We should leave for the next generation solutions rather than regrets,” he urged, exhorting all Nigerians to be dedicated to the country’s development.
Taking aim at his critics, the politician demanded that he be removed from his position as minister. He asserted that those who stated he was incapable of delivering were mistaken.

Heaven would not fall if ground rent debtors in Abuja, the country’s capital, did not pay their outstanding bills, the minister claimed.
In addition, former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, his Benue State counterpart Samuel Ortom, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and others attended the occasion.
