Obi applauds Tinubu for mirroring his borehole efforts.
Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections, has expressed his appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in providing water access through borehole projects, aligning with his own initiatives.
In a statement released by the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) in Abuja, Obi highlighted his longstanding call for affluent Nigerians to contribute to borehole installations to aid the underprivileged. He noted Tinubu’s recent directive to construct 400 boreholes nationwide in honor of his late mother, Alhaja Abibatu Magaji, as a positive response to this call.
The statement, signed by Dr. Tanko Yunusa, acknowledged the President’s alignment with Obi’s vision. Obi had previously initiated borehole projects in several northern states, including Nasarawa, Bauchi, Kano, Zaria, Kebbi, Suleja Niger State, and Sokoto, addressing the critical need for clean water in these areas.
Dr. Yunusa emphasized the importance of this charitable spirit from the President, urging that such initiatives should be integrated into broader government projects to genuinely address the needs of the impoverished. He criticized the current government priorities, pointing out the disparity between the dire needs of millions lacking clean drinking water, education, and healthcare, and the focus on costly infrastructure projects.
The POMR statement concluded with a call for the government to shift its priorities towards addressing the fundamental issues affecting the poor, thereby creating a more equitable and just society.
