Bala Mohammed, the chairperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, is optimistic that the PDP would emerge stronger from its current predicament.

The statement was made on Friday by Mr. Mohammed, who is also the governor of Bauchi State, while he was meeting with Umar Damagum, the beleaguered Acting PDP National Chairperson.

According to reports, Mr. Mohammed met with Mr. Damaguma at the Bauchi State Government House including other PDP chairpersons from the northeast.

‘We have a way of coming out of problems’
Mr. Mohammed said during the meeting with the PDP’s Acting National Chairman. He also acknowledged the party’s numerous issues.

Nonetheless, the governor stated that he was still dedicated to cooperating with other governors to find solutions as the head of the party’s governors’ forum.

“This is why I always said we may have problems, we may have political hiccups, but certainly, we have a way of coming back.

“The coming of the ambassador (Damagun) comes on a day we have a lot of problems at the party. The most important thing in today’s outing is that the North-east is one. We are together and we are unified,” he said.

Mr. Mohammed gave Mr. Damagum his word that he would confer with the other governors to decide on the best course of action in light of the party’s predicament.

Earlier, Mr. Damagum clarified that the purpose of his visit was to talk about PDP-related matters.

“You can see the chairmen of the North-east PDP with me. They came here also to support me to reiterate their commitment that the North-east, where they come from, is one and also they believe in the leadership of the governors forum’s chairman,” he said.

“Today we came for a friendly visit to discuss many things.”

In addition, Mr. Damagum cautioned Nigerians not to cast their ballots in favor of inept leaders in the general election of 2027.

The beleaguered acting chairman of the PDP bemoaned the fact that many Nigerians are suffering as a result of President Bola Tinubu’s policies.

“There is a need for Nigerians to prioritize credibility when choosing leaders; those who collected spaghetti and wrappers to bring in the present government are feeling it more than anybody else,” he said.

The rise of two factions inside the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) has resulted in a significant leadership dilemma for the party.

Lately, the two factions have begun releasing contradictory comments.

On Friday, one of the groups nominated Yayari Mohammed as the new acting national chairperson and suspended Mr. Damagum.
Samuel Anyanwu, the PDP National Secretary, was also suspended by the faction due to their alleged anti-party activities and involvement in the political crisis in Rivers State.

Debo Ologunagba, the party’s national publicity secretary, and Kamaldeen Ajibade, the national legal adviser, were earlier suspended by a different group of the PDP’s NWC loyal to Mr. Damagum.

The PDP Board of Trustees recently urged the two groups to put down their swords and return to the status quo during the crisis.

As acting chairman, Mr. Damagum had to deal with several internal issues.

Allegations of anti-party activities have dogged his tenure, leading to some party members calling for his urgent dismissal.

Mr. Damagum, who is reportedly gaining the backing of certain governors and the Federal Capital Territory minister, Nyesom Wike, barely escaped an attempt to remove him in April during a contentious PDP National Executive Committee meeting.

A party faction allegedly spearheaded the effort to remove him to install a national chairperson from the area.
