Leaders of over 60 youth organizations have announced that their members will not participate in the nationwide protest being planned by some groups against the Federal Government on October 1. This decision was revealed by the President of the Nigeria Youth Organisation, Duke Alamboye, during a visit to the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dr. Dennis Otuaro, in Abuja.

According to a statement by Mr. Igoniko Oduma, the Special Assistant on Media to the PAP Administrator, the youth groups include the National Youth Congress, Arewa Youth Council, Yoruba Youth Council, Ohaneze Youth Council, South-South Advocate, Niger Delta Coalition, Nigeria Nexus, Youth Parliament of Nigeria, Green Africa Youth Initiative, Youth Foundation for Non-Violence in Nigeria, Niger Delta Youth Parliament, National Association of Nigerian Students, Youth Empowerment for Peace and Security, and others.

Alamboye emphasized that the coalition would work closely with other youth networks to ensure that Nigerian youths are not misled into joining what he described as an ill-advised protest against the Federal Government. He outlined plans to organize activities, including a world press conference and a youth summit, aimed at sensitizing Nigerians on the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the country.

“We are aware of the agitations calling for a nationwide protest on October 1, 2024, against President Bola Tinubu’s government,” Alamboye said. “As youth leaders committed to peace and national progress, we plan to hold a world press conference on September 23, 2024, to educate Nigerian youths on the need to avoid the planned protest.”

He urged young Nigerians to opt for constructive dialogue and utilize available channels of engagement with the government to express their concerns instead of resorting to actions that could disrupt the country’s peace.

“Definitely, We encourage dialogue as a better tool for reconciliation,” he said. “We also plan to host a summit on October 1, 2024, following the press conference, to continue our efforts in guiding our youth towards productive engagement with the government. We look forward to the participation of all well-meaning stakeholders in this endeavor.”

Duke Alamboye congratulated Dr. Otuaro on his appointment as PAP Administrator and praised President Tinubu for making what he described as a fitting choice. He assured both Tinubu and Otuaro of the youth organizations’ support, emphasizing their commitment to the administration’s goals for national development.
