The Sour Moment

A tense moment unfolded at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday when a car engulfed in flames sparked panic among onlookers. The incident, which occurred during a solidarity rally for party chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, was swiftly contained thanks to the alert response of witnesses and security personnel.

Witnesses reported seeing the red car, bearing Benue State registration plates, suddenly erupt in flames as it approached the headquarters from Barcelona Hotels on Blantyre Street. Initial panic gripped the area as workers at the secretariat, alerted by shouts of “fire, fire,” rushed for safety.

Quick Actions

Fortunately, quick-thinking individuals, including drivers and security officers stationed at the premises, sprung into action. They effectively extinguished the blaze before it could escalate further, preventing what could have been a significantly more serious situation. The driver of the car, however, remained tight-lipped when approached for comment.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the incident did little to dampen the spirits of the ongoing rally. The APC, meanwhile, announced the formation of a seven-member committee tasked with overseeing the party’s upcoming gubernatorial primaries in Edo State. Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State will lead the committee, with Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River serving as deputy chair. The committee’s composition reflects the party’s commitment to inclusivity and transparency in the electoral process.

Gubernatorial Race Confirmed

Separately, the APC officially confirmed the eligibility of all twelve aspirants vying for its ticket in the Edo gubernatorial race. This diverse group of candidates represents a spectrum of experience and viewpoints within the party. With campaigns set to begin in April, the stage is set for an exciting and competitive internal contest.

While the car fire undoubtedly caused a temporary jolt of alarm, the swift and effective response underscores the importance of community alertness and preparedness. As the APC gears up for its Edo primaries, this incident serves as a reminder of the party’s keen commitment to conducting a democratic and transparent process.
