“RENT TO FEED?” Buhari’s Move to Kaduna Mansion Sparks Controversy 🤨💵
Former President Muhammadu Buhari has triggered a flurry of confusion and conversation after moving into his private residence in Kaduna a few weeks after his statement that he sustained himself through the rent of one of his two houses.
Buhari disclosed on January 27, 2025, while addressing the All Progressives Congress, APC, Caucus at the Katsina State Government House, that he has been relying on rents from his house in Kaduna to feed himself.
He went on to argue that he never corruptly enriched himself during his eight years of rule.
But Buhari returned to his Kaduna residence on Thursday, February 27, 2025, after staying in Daura, Katsina for two full years in the post-presidency, beginning from May 2023.
“Today, after two years in Daura, Katsina State, since leaving office in May 2023, former President Muhammadu Buhari returned to his residence in Kaduna,” said Bashir Ahmad, his ex-aide, on X.
“After his term in office, he chose a quiet life in his hometown and for the most part stayed out of politics, except for private matters.”
Bashir Ahmad’s post stated that Buhari was accompanied to his Kaduna residence by Vice President Kashim Shettima and many dignitaries, including Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, and present and past deputy governors of Katsina State, a past Inspector-General of Police, former ministers, and many personal aides.
Ahmad added that Buhari received a warm farewell from Katsina, where well-wishers had gathered alongside dignitaries like Mallam Mamman Daura and Musa Halilu (Dujiman Adamawa).
The development, however, triggered a wave of confusion, as many probed which of the houses he was talking about when he claimed he rented a property for his upkeep.
An X user, Olusegun Bakare with username @theboyisgreat said; “I hope it’s a rented house bcos this man said he has only one house, which is the one in Daura.”
Another user @DanjumaDanjuu wrote: “I thought 🤔 he said he give out the house 🏡 for rent. Who’s deceiving who?”
Yunusa Pyaske, a Facebook user wrote; “Mr. President’s Kaduna house was rented out. I wonder how the tenants he rented the house to will be feeling now. Though, you didn’t include them among those who welcome him to the house in Kaduna.”
“I really wonder about why he said he has rented out his house..so where is he going now or is he going to rent another one,” questioned Ibrahim Abba Sheriff, Facebook user.
Nasir Amin voiced his opinion, saying, “I thought he (Buhari) stated that he rented the house out and he feeds his family with the rental fee?.
Now that he returned to the house which money is he going to use to feed them since he is now the occupant? I need some clarification.”
