Tambuwal, who served as governor of Sokoto State for eight years and is also a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, was taken into EFCC custody on Monday over allegations of fraudulent cash withdrawals totaling N189 billion.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sanyinnawal, described the arrest as politically motivated and an attempt to silence the opposition.
The PDP accused the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government of using the anti-graft agency to intimidate political opponents while ignoring corruption allegations against its own members.
It called on its supporters to remain calm and urged anti-graft agencies to act impartially.
